G.C is a resident at Painswick Inn Project house, at OPENhouse. G.C was not attending college or work and was referred to the Creative Learning department as part of his contract with the house. G.C had no ideas about future employment and was not engaging in education. He joined the Enterprise programme and began by looking at his own goals and aspirations. He went on to develop a product line to be sold at a fundraising Makers Market, organised as part of the Enterprise Initiative. Having researched costings and materials he is visiting a local craft business to use their sandblasting equipment to etch glass votive candle containers with images that he has designed. These will then be filled with wax (sourced cheaply by G.C as waste material from a commercial supplier) ready for sale. This practical Enterprise work is the basis for a level 1 qualification in Personal and Social Development on setting own goals and preparing for and carrying out enterprise activities.
Having begun to explore the possibilities of self employment, G.C was encouraged by his Enterprise tutor to visit the local council Business Link advisory service. He now plans to set up his own business.
