M.P was referred to the programme as she suffered from severe social anxiety. She had begun a course in child care at Stroud College, but had left during the first session, finding the large group too daunting.
An initial assessment meeting with MP revealed that she was interested in a career working either in childcare or with animals. She had obtained a GCSE qualification in English, but wanted additional help with numeracy. We agreed that she should start with a half day session a week working in Creative Craft, building up her weekly hours as she grew in confidence. She quickly asked to increase her hours and is now working towards an NCFE level 1 qualification in Creative Craft using Textiles. Her confidence has improved dramatically and she now feels comfortable working in small groups with other learners. She hopes that eventually she will feel ready to return to college to study childcare, but she is also exploring the possibilities of working with animals. As part of her course she has worked on producing a CV and is having 1:1 sessions in numeracy.
